July 2008: Companies successfully upgraded

After almost one year of training, the second batch of Construction Management Consultants (CMCs), Architects and Engineers finalized their Capacity Development Phase within the University Capacity Building Program (UCBP). More than 80 people took part in the event, when certificates were awarded to 14 companies at the closing event on July 31st 2008.

Companies from the CMC group included:

  • ABBA Architects PLC,
  • Campbell Project Management Services - CPMS,
  • Construction Management Team - CMT,
  • Runu Management PLC,
  • Universal Consultants

These companies were especially trained in providing managerial and technical support to large scale construction projects, starting from the inception to the commissioning of completed buildings and infrastructure works on behalf of clients.

“Such trainings modernize the construction sector through relevant technical skills. This will be a good opportunity for the country, to have ample experts in the sector,” said Ato Zerihun Yoseph from Universal Consultants, adding that the Consulting Companies are now capable of using the latest technologies helping them to be competitive in the national and international market.

According to Ato Zelalem Berhane from ABAKO International Partners, especially the ISO 9001: 2000 trainings helped them in being more organized. The Cost Efficient Design (CED) trainings made their trainees aware of costs involved in design, and work in cost efficient manner.

Mr. Martin Hansen, Director of the UCBP, expressed his appreciation to all the companies involved as well as his hopes for a prolonged partnership.
