January 2009: ETG Designers and Consultants PLC goes international

ETG Designers and Consultants PLC clients started to change when ISO 9001:2000 was achieved in 2007. After participating in ISO 9001:2000 trainings with GTZ IS University Capacity Building Program (UCBP) in 2006, ETG is now experiencing growth and success.

The Technical Director Ato Eshetu says that much of his success is attributed to the knowledge and expertise gained from ISO 9001:2000. After the trainings, ETG Designers and Consultants PLC implemented the quality management system in its departments of project management, human resource management, structure organographies and documentation. Therewith, ETG Designers and Consultants PLC increased its standards to meet clients on an international level, engaging in various projects, such as:

  • Japanese International Cooperation Systems (JICS), contracting ETG Designers and Consultants PLC to build 48 schools in West Hararge and North Shewa regions of Ethiopia;
  • Korean International Cooperation (KIC), cooperating with ETG Designers and Consultants PLC to construct 7 primary schools in Arisi region; and
  • Eleswede Cables Limited is working with ETG Designers and Consultants PLC in constructing warehouses and factories for different types of cable production.

The UCBP is supporting companies in the Ethiopian construction sector to apply cost efficient design and construction principles. By internalizing these methodologies, ETG Designers and Consultants PLC manages to work cost efficient and with a standard quality while constructing e.g.:

  • the Health, Business and Economics faculty in the Arbaminch University,
  • the Millennium Medical College, and
  • the Maternity and Children Care Center in St. Paulos Hospital in Addis Ababa.

Established in 1997, ETG Designers and Consultants PLC has the vision to undertake infrastructural development projects in the public and private sector, by cooperating with both governmental and non‐governmental actors. After ISO certification, ETG Designers and Consultants PLC has improved its performances. They now significantly contribute to the country’s development in the sector of infrastructure and engage in crucial areas such as education and health. Their escalating success proves the importance of implementations of quality management in the construction sector.
