No more discernment

Motivated and outstanding craftsmen in construction trades such as carpentry, concrete, electricity, masonry and plumbing was not regarded as an honor during the earlier period. Though trades such as these have significant impact for construction sector, they were considered as discarded trades in Ethiopia.

However, for the first time on 23rd of November 2009 experts involved in such trades were honored with a pin award for their outstanding performance and contribution in Imperial Hotel.

University Capacity Building Program (UCBP in cooperation with the Construction Contractors Association of Ethiopia (CCAE) initiated this award ceremony. Chairman of the CCAE, Ato Demissew Abate, highlighted the importance of these trades and motivated the awardees to maintain with their best efforts, he concluded his speech on the award ceremony by showing gratitude to GIZ IS Ethiopia for the contribution and commitments and he promised to take the awarding procedure from here on wards. More than 100 people witnessed this event.
