Master Planning

A university with a capacity of 10 000 students reaches the dimension of a small town. Therefore, town planning principles are used for the design of each UCBP campus. GTZ International Services, working together with German experts and Ethiopian colleagues, has developed specific guidelines for the sustainable design of 13 universities.

The master plan takes into account all local conditions, such as climate, topography, vegetation, prevailing settlement structures, available resources, existing infrastructure facilities, city growth, as well as cultural and social background.

Master planning serves to anticipate the development of the entire project, as well as the campus’s urban surroundings. It organizes the building phases, infrastructure-facilities and environmental impact. The master plan is the key tool in avoiding difficulties in the beginning. It guarantees sustainability during the life cycle and operation of the universities.
