UCBP Who we are Capacity Development Partners  ·

Capacity Development Partners

Over the course of 4 years, UCBP is directly developing the capacity of a minimum of 120 companies in the Ethiopian construction sector. All of these companies have a specific role in ensuring the timely construction of the universities. Simultaneously, they receive targeted, expertise-specific trainings at firm and site level. These companies are divided into four professional groups: Construction Management
Companies (Tier I), Architects and Engineers (Tier II), Construction Companies (Tier III), and Small and Medium Enterprises (Tier IV).

Construction Management Companies (CMC'S)

integrated into the GTZ IS team at headquarters and at the construction sites. They are trained in the modern techniques of construction management systems. In Ethiopia, the job profile of CMC’s is not well known; UCBP is a very strong supporter of this field. Participating companies for Phase I from May 2006 until December 2007 were:

  • Afri Consult;
  • BET Consulting Architects;
  • GatMeTs;
  • Life Consult.

Phase two has started in late 2007 with the following companies;

  • ABBA Architects
  • (Campbell P.M.S.)
  • CMT Construction Management
  • RUNU Management PLC
  • Universal Consultants

Architects and Engineers (A & E's)

In UCBP, MH Engineering is responsible for the planning and design of the university buildings. GTZ IS and, throughout the entire program duration, a minimum of 39 architects and engineering companies (A&E) are involved in every step of this process- from master planning to architectural, structural, electrical and sanitary design. The A&E’s benefit directly from UCBP experts’ capacity development: they receive training on contract and project management systems, as well as the latest design software and cost efficient design (CED) methods. They can easily apply these new methods to further design proposals for other clients.
