Higher Education

Higher Education is critical for Ethiopia’s future economic development, and the need for an ambitious expansion of this sector in Ethiopia is undisputed.

The UCBP addresses this need by geographically decentralizing and expanding Ethiopia’s Higher Education system on a large scale, resulting in unprecedented equitable access to university-level education.

By 2009, over 121,000 new students will be enrolled in the 13 new/extended universities that the UCBP is creating.

These students will form the backbone of a qualified and adaptable human resource base that will drive Ethiopia’s development forward. In addition to contributing to accelerated industrial development, these new universities will strengthen secondary education and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by focusing on training qualified teachers.
