Tepi is located in the Southern Nations Nationalities People Region (SNNPR), 596 km southwest of Addis Ababa. Its population is approximately 15,000. Sheka, Keffa and Amharic are the primary languages spoken in the community and Amharic is used for business communication. Agriculture is the mainstay of the population and trade and commerce with a small service sector.
Tepi is best known for its state-run coffee plantation. The second largest in Ethiopia, it stretches over 6205 hectares. The plantation produces an average of 3000 tones of raw Arabica coffee per year.
